Student Intern, Curriculum Developer
My name is Shannyah and I am a mental health advocate, public speaker and Christian psychotherapist in training. I focus my work on the impacts of trauma, mental disorders, toxic work cultures due to mental health neglect and other factors that hinder people from thriving.
I graduated from the Bachelor of Social Work program and have dedicated most of my career to working with marginalized and vulnerable communities, especially Black communities. I have ample experience in speaking publicly and educating youth and young adults in areas such as mental health, racism and discrimination, sexual health, and leadership, where most of this is facilitated through my non-profit organization, PositiveVibes T.O.
Through my experiences with unhealthy work cultures and knowledge in mental health, I help organizations, agencies, and businesses overcome toxic and unhealthy workplace environments by shifting the work culture through consultations, trainings, workplace mediations and public speaking. I focus on moving from trying to create a “safe place” towards creating “safe people” as it is the people who influence culture.
I am currently in my last year of the Master of Counselling Psychology program at Yorkville University and am working towards becoming a licensed and registered psychotherapist. I plan to continue to help individuals, communities, and teams overcome their obstacles so people can live prosperous lives and organizations can produce a healthy and productive work environment. Essentially, I envision a world where people are not impeded by their issues but overcome them and live purposeful lives.
